| IMPACT IN THE INTEGRAL DEVELOPMENT OF THE RURAL ZONES |

Since the beginning, the Fundación para la Vivienda Rural Costa Rica-Canadá has been aware of its goals which are not only to finance the construction of houses.
According to its institutional mission and vision of the future, besides the housing programs, the Fundación also facilitates the access of initiatives that want to promote the integral development of the families in all the country.
For that reason, since the year of 2005, the Special Projects Unity has been created, now Research and Development Unity, in order to reaffirm its commitment with the communities of the rural zone and to propose alternatives to obtain resources and establish strategic alliances that can be expressed in alternative projects. Those initiatives are based in the integral development of the people of the rural communities and are looking for the improvement of the conditions in the life of the inhabitants for which four different areas have been defined: |

Social and Economical Development Alternatives: |

- Financial programs for those projects that can give an integral help to the organized rural communities (such as sewing factories, small grocery stores, day nurseries, etc) some of which can be directed by groups of women that are head of their houses.

Environment : |

- Projects for the environment protection in general through alliances with other organizations.
- Recycling programs of residues to obtain raw materials such as fertilizers for organic agriculture.
- Projects of agricultural and ecological community based tourism , in the beaches as well as in the mountains.

Agriculture: |

• Technology transfer projects to promote the different initiatives in the agricultural and stock farm fields, and also in the harvest of mini-vegetables, in the dairy production, in the ornamental plants for local and foreign consumption, etc.

Knowledge transfer: |

• Transfer or interchange of experiences and methodological practices in the housing sector and other development areas, making stronger the participation of the other NGO's of the region, and trying to get a common goal through the adoption of common strategies and policies. |

The general strategy is based in the establishment of links with organizations of the civil society, governmental organisms, and with international cooperation organizations.
